Imagine A World Without Line Dividers

Line dividers are a necessity if you require your customers and/or staff to follow your protocol for business transactions. Not everyone has the innate discipline to follow an imaginary line. Without the line dividers, people will be scrambling to get to the front of the line, and be attended to.

If you want to be political about line dividers, it’s the great equalizer. This is because no matter how much money or power you have, if there’s a divider, you have to fall in line. Of course, in the ideal world, this is what happens. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world, so there are still those scalawags with power who force the issue, and go to the front of the line. These people aside, majority of all others will follow the line dividers, and because of them, we are able to enjoy order and the principle of first-come, first-serve.

In business, it also eliminates error which happens when your front liners get confused and rattled by an unruly crowd. For example, if you are having a sale, and so many customers are pounding on the cashier’s table to get served, it is likely that the cashier could give out the wrong change or item.  Also, the more discipline there is, the less likely a customer will just give up and walk away without buying anything. Thus, the value of these dividers ends up as a cost and time saver, not to mention a plug for potential deal breakers.
